A well-planned wedding day timeline is the foundation of a stress-free celebration. It ensures vendors arrive on time, photos happen during the best light, and guests know where to be.
This guide provides a realistic hour-by-hour template based on a 5:00 PM ceremony. Adjust times to fit your schedule—but keep the same buffer time between activities.
Before You Start
Work backwards from your ceremony time. Everything else—getting ready, photos, arrivals—flows from that fixed point. Share your timeline with ALL vendors at least 2 weeks before the wedding.

Timeline Tips from Planners
- Add buffer time: Things always take longer than expected. Build in 15-30 minute buffers.
- Don't over-schedule: You don't need an activity every minute. Let guests mingle.
- Communicate with vendors: Everyone should have the same timeline document.
- Designate a point person: Someone other than the couple should keep things on track.
- Plan for photos: Good photos need time. Don't rush the photographer.
- Consider sunset: Schedule couple portraits around golden hour for best light.
- Feed your vendors: Happy vendors perform better. Include meals in your timeline.
